A school portrait of Newhaven
The schoolchildren of Victoria Primary School in Newhaven are enthusiastic about their local history. So enthusiastic in fact, they have their own ‘Wee Museum’ dedicated to Newhaven’s fishing heritage at the very heart of their school.
The starting point for their latest history project was a selection of images chosen from our online image library, Capital Collections. Inspired by their favourite pictures of Newhaven fisherfolk from days gone by, a group of photographers aged 6 to 11 recreated the scenes with their friends from the school and the local community.
The results are simply fantastic and we’re delighted to showcase the pictures alongside the inspirational archival photographs in a special exhibition entitled, Newhaven: That was then, this is now.

An exhibition of the photographs is on show at Newhaven Connections Community Café until 27th October (daytimes, Tues, Wed and Thurs).
So if you’re in the neighbourhood, why not pop along and take a look at the pictures and enjoy a cuppa and some home baking at the same time!
