Polish rhyme times

In response to demand from local Polish speaking mums (and grans!) Wester Hailes Library is starting a Polish rhyme time.
It’s a great opportunity for mums who have little English to enjoy the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the library, make new friends and maybe even teach traditional Polish rhymes to non Polish speakers.
The rhyme times, for tiny babies to 4 year olds and their carers, will take place on the first Friday of each month starting on Friday 7 September at 10.30. Here’s what to expect:

Green Pencil Award 2012

“The Green Pencil Award is surely one of the most important children’s writing competitions there is. Year after year it fires up children’s imaginations about topics that really affect us all. I’m very much looking forward to hear what the boys and girls will say about ‘Birds & Beasties’. I know it will be imaginative, thought-provoking – and, most of all, exciting!”
- Edinburgh Makar Ron Butlin

Granton hosted what we are pretty sure was the first Zumba class to take place in one of our libraries. The  4 to 14 year olds (and library staff) who took part found that keeping fit really can be fun.

“The Awakening” – an exclusive short story

We proudly present a Tales of One City first: an exclusive short story by local author Mike Nicholson and some of the children at Oxgangs Library – the result of their “Write a story in 60 minutes” session. Read on and enjoy…
No-one knew who the stranger was. If they noticed him at all, then they might have wondered what his bulging backpack contained. Perhaps they might have guessed in which countries his battered safari hat had become so bleached by the sun.

Drumbrae Library – They got the power (back again)

Drumbrae Library is now fully back in business as their power issues have been rectified and all computer systems and telephone systems are back up and running.
Thanks to all our customers for their understanding and patience over the last few hours.

How to get your kids to do their homework

The school year is upon us once again and the hard work of entertaining the little darlings is over for another summer holiday. The task of trying to prise them from the latest video game to do their homework however, has only just begun.
