Picturing Edinburgh then and now

Our Town Stories  tells the story of Edinburgh through maps, images and narrative, using material from the collections of Edinburgh Libraries.
One of our favourite features of the site are the unique “then and now” images like this one of North Bridge. Click the image then move the slider to see how (much? little?) the area has changed since 1901.

Here’s something to beat those January blues:
Use your library card to set up an account with Zinio, and get free digital access to more than seventy magazine titles including Hello!, National Geographic, Rolling Stone and Good Housekeeping.

Prepare for the British Citizenship Test


If you or someone you know is preparing for the citizenship test and have reached Intermediate level English or above this will be of interest.
Starting 23rd January we’ll be holding drop-in sessions for applicants where an ESOL tutor will be on hand to give help and advice on the test. This will run from 5.30 – 7.30pm every Wednesday from 23rd January through to 20th March.

Last Saturday we welcomed hundreds of visitors to our Local and Family History Open Day. They took part in a packed programme of taster sessions, talks and exhibitions, organized as part of the Previously…Scotland’s History Festival.
