Let’s celebrate Libraries

Here are just some of our events during October.  Check with your local library to find out what’s happening in your area.

Photo gallery: causes for celebration

Edinburgh’s Olympic heroes haven’t been the only ones celebrating recently, as our latest photo gallery shows that library users of all ages have had reasons to be cheerful too.

Introducing Bernard the Ferret

Bernard is a rare, black-footed prairie ferret and he lives in Norfolk where he is a real one-off.  He has many adventures with his ferret friends Ferreta, Stinker and Zizz.

In the footsteps (and bus lanes) of Boswell and Johnson

When Stuart Campbell reached an age which allowed him to travel for free on Scotland’s buses, he planned something slightly more ambitious than run of the mill trips to the supermarket.

Do you use library internet computers or wifi?

From next week we will be carrying out some work to improve the performance of the libraries’ Peoples’ Network computers. This means there may be no internet access in some libraries for up to two weeks.
There will be no internet access in any location from 14th – 16th  November. Internet access will be restored to libraries on a rolling basis thereafter. Wifi will also be affected.
We need to carry out this work in order to increase bandwidth and speed up the performance of these machines. This will improve response times for logging in and internet page loading.

Winnie the Pooh’s Birthday Celebrations

Libraries throughout the South of Edinburgh have been celebrating a very special anniversary:  Winnie the Pooh’s 90th birthday!  On 21 August 1921, A. A. Milne gave Christopher Robin a very special bear for his first birthday and Winnie the Pooh has gone on to become a national institution, much loved by children and adults alike.  Libraries in the South of Edinburgh ran a number of events to celebrate.

Roll up, roll up! The circus is coming to your library!

‘Circus Stars’ is our theme for this year’s reading challenge – so there will be lots of clowning about in libraries this summer! Scroll down to see what’s happening at your local library (if it’s  not listed give them a call to find out what’s happening, or ask the next time you’re in).
To find out more about the summer reading challenge take a look at this video or head over to the Circus Stars site.
