Our e-resources: big in Zambia!

Oxgangs welcomed some very special guests on the 30th of August, when visitors from Zambia came to explore the library.  Theresa Chilufya, the deputy head of Chipembi Girls’ School, and her colleague Hegger Mudenda travelled with students Genevieve Hoare and Exillia Kabbudula, and enjoyed a tour of Oxgangs library, where they were all given membership cards and shown how to use the services available on Your Library.  Students at Chipembi school are not as lucky with regards to books and resources  as we are here in Edinburgh, so our visitors considered Oxgangs to be something of an “Aladdi

Test your luggage weigher at Oxgangs Library


Come along to Oxgangs Library today between 12 and 3 pm where Trading Standards Officers will be on hand to test the accuracy of your  luggage weigher.
There’s nothing worse than getting to the airport to discover that your bags are too heavy and you have to start repacking them to avoid those nasty luggage charges.

Colinton Primary prepare for Armed Forces Day

Class P5 from Colinton Primary School have been working with Oxgangs Library in their preparations for the Armed Forces Day celebrations on Saturday.  The class have been taking part in writing and art activities to show their support for the Armed Forces.

Dementia Awareness Week 6- 10 June 2011

Oxgangs Library, in conjunction with Alzheimer’s Scotland, are hosting a couple of advice sessions, giving information about early signs of dementia, different types of dementia and information for carers.
These will take place on Wednesday 8th June (11.00 – 11.30am) and Friday 10th June (11.00 – 12.30pm)

Online Ambition – using the internet to find a job

Social networking sites like Facebook, Linked-In and Twitter can be really useful when you’re looking for a job or applying for college. But how do you make sure your online profile will appeal to, and not put off, prospective employers?
Well help is at hand – our friends at Online Ambition are coming to Oxgangs Library to look at digital cvs and how to use social media to get a job or place at college. They’ll advise on how to set up safe, attractive public profiles that will appeal to employers.

Adult Learners’ Week


16-20 May is Adult Learners week and my goodness we’ve  got plenty going on in libraries to mark the fact. Whether you want to find out more about local history, start a book group, improve your computer skills or trace your family tree, we’ve got something for you.

Morningside Library Refurbishment

Morningside Library will close its doors this weekend to allow an exciting renovation programme to get under way.

What’s your favourite book? That’s the question we asked the people of Oxgangs recently. We left postcards in community centres, churches and of course Oxgangs library, asking people to nominate their favourite read – then we held a prize draw on World Book Day which was won by Eve Murphy (pictured).
