Photo gallery: causes for celebration
Edinburgh’s Olympic heroes haven’t been the only ones celebrating recently, as our latest photo gallery shows that library users of all ages have had reasons to be cheerful too.
July in pictures

Time for another pictorial trip round the libraries. It rained so much during July that Newington’s younger readers took the entirely sensible option of building themselves a ship. And not just any ship, this was a pirate ship me hearties. Yarr.
Luckily talented cellist Islay Roberts was not forced to walk the plank and was free instead to treat Newington’s more sophisticated landlubbers to a refined evening of musical entertainment.

A new way to borrow and return books
Quick Serve is coming to Piershill Library on Friday 18th November at 12 noon. This is your quick and easy way to borrow and return books, cds and dvds, pay any library charges and keep your account up to date. You will need your library card and library PIN (personal identity number) to use Quick Serve. If you haven’t got your PIN just ask the staff for it.
Do you use library internet computers or wifi?
From next week we will be carrying out some work to improve the performance of the libraries’ Peoples’ Network computers. This means there may be no internet access in some libraries for up to two weeks.
There will be no internet access in any location from 14th – 16th November. Internet access will be restored to libraries on a rolling basis thereafter. Wifi will also be affected.
We need to carry out this work in order to increase bandwidth and speed up the performance of these machines. This will improve response times for logging in and internet page loading.
