Our first Edinburgh Reads event of the new year sees former First Minister Henry McLeish in conversation with writer and broadcaster Lesley Riddoch. As ever, it’s absolutely free and you can book your place online.

October Fine Art Exhibition
October’s exhibition in the Art Library is an excellent collection of 3D Felt Textile Art by Russian born artist and designer Larisa Guzova.
The Open University: your questions answered
Our friends from the Open University will be at Central Library between 11am and 7pm on Wednesday 24th October to answer your questions about courses, study methods and other aspects of learning with the OU.
Just drop in, no appointment necessary.
Library opening hours are changing
Just a quick reminder that from Monday (1st October) twenty-two of our libraries will open from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, with major changes to Thursday opening citywide. Six libraries will also continue to be open on a Sunday.

Victorious Volunteers!
Last Thursday night saw several members of the library’s invaluable WRVS volunteers being honoured for their long service. At the event in the City Chambers some of the Edinburgh Books on Wheels volunteers were presented with medals including David Colvin, a volunteer of 20 years and Grace Aithie of 27 years. The Books on Wheels service delivers books to housebound readers every two weeks and also provides a Library Link service which escorts readers to the library.

Drumbrae Library – They got the power (back again)
Drumbrae Library is now fully back in business as their power issues have been rectified and all computer systems and telephone systems are back up and running.
Thanks to all our customers for their understanding and patience over the last few hours.

Due to a power outage, Drumbrae Library Hub is currently without any telephones or computer systems.
Should you have any enquiries, renewals, or requests then please contact any of our other branch libraries who will be happy, and able, to assist you.

Egyptian gods and suffragettes: it’s the Ragged University
The Ragged University comes to Central Library’s mezzanine on Friday 17th August for a special double bill of talks starting at 1.30pm.
First, Makmed the Miller presents “The Grief of Isis” in the form of a spectacular artwork with accompanying music.
Then, after a break for tea, coffee and biscuits Peter Barratt will talk about the remarkable life of his grandmother – the Suffragette Alice Hawkins.
There is no charge and no tickets to order – just turn up on the day.
