Tiger Tales: we’re going to the zoo, how about you?

Tiger Tales is a brand new initiative running once a month at Sighthill, Wester Hailes and Ratho libraries, where parents with children aged 4 – 8 can sit down together and hear a story told by our Tiger Tale Tellers.
This is a great opportunity to interact with other parents and children in safe and friendly environment.
To celebrate the start of Tiger Tales, this Friday (1st April) we’ll be holding our very first session in the exciting surroundings of Edinburgh Zoo! We’ll have stories, a jungle quiz, face painting and lots of other fun activities.

Tom Allan on Edinbuzz: a force for good

The idea behind Edinbuzz is to help people to use social media for social good. That might mean setting up a blog for a community newspaper, or a Facebook group for a local library. It might mean training young people to use videos cameras and set up a you-tube account, or helping a community council use twitter to hold councillors to account.

New Year opening times

Just a quick reminder that libraries will close at 5pm on Hogmanay then reopen as normal on Wednesday 5th January.
Happy New Year to all our readers from everyone here at Edinburgh City Libraries!

Talk to the experts at our social media surgeries

Every community group could benefit from getting online. Tools like blogs, podcasts, video and social networks can give a real boost to all sorts of organisations, often for little or no cost.

Burst pipe closes Wester Hailes Library

Just when we thought things were (sort of) getting back to normal…  a burst pipe and water failure at Wester Hailes library means we’ve had to close until further notice.
We’ll let you know when the library re-opens, in the meantime we’re accepting returned books at the main library door.

Opening times until Friday

Libraries Opening Times on Wednesday 8 December, Thursday 9 December and Friday 10 December will be 10am – 5pm.
Where staffing allows, this includes libraries that would normally open from 1pm.
As we’ve been saying -  things could change depending on the weather. Our advice remains to phone ahead if you are thinking of visiting a library to make sure it will be open when you get there.

7th December – Libraries will close at 4pm today

Kirkliston and Ratho will not open today due to weather conditions.
Morningside is currently closed due to problems with heating.
The other public libraries in Edinburgh will close at 4pm today.
The situation may change – if we have to close some libraries even earlier we will update you here.
